Now that we are in the dead of winter, it is time to start thinking spring. If you are like many gardeners, you are not spending your winter months pining away but planning. I find that now is the perfect time to start thinking of what I will plant, how the garden will come together and when I should be starting seedlings. With that in mind, it reviewed the book, "The Edible Front Yard." The book is not your typical raised bed kind of book but rather focuses on giving users the ability to build a garden that has curb appeal.
What's It About?
As a part of the recreation book club review, I decided to give this a chance. Never have I planted vegetables in my front yard (and interestingly, this is where the most space and light exist. In her book, the author, Ivette Soler offers a unique viewpoint about exactly that. The best placement for edibles is not hidden away but right in your gardens for all to see. The book offers some great information as well as useable plans for making edible plants not only attractive but also successful anywhere you want to put them.
What's the Verdict?
If you are considering adding a vegetable garden this year, check out The Edible Front Yard. You do not have to change your entire front yard into a field of potatoes. Rather, this book offers an important option in allowing you to create an effective garden that is beautiful and has edible portions to it. You can mix it together and have a successful outcome. If you are dead set on not putting your vegetables up front, this book still provides some great tips and guidelines for ensuring your garden still looks great and is visually appealing.
