Let me just preface this by saying I love this book. It’s my first book by the Disinformation folks, so I had no idea what to expect when I ordered it. I do love lists, however (can you tell?), and was very intrigued by the content the book’s synopsis claimed it would contain.

Once I received the book, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was even better than promised.

The Disinformation Book of Lists by Russ Kick is a 288-page book filled with lists about all kinds of things that you would never learn in school. Some are quite scary. Some make your stomach turn. Some are just plain hilarious. Here are a few things you’ll learn if you read the book…

  • Which famous people have been seen drinking absinthe (Hillary Clinton is listed!)
  • Which past presidents and other historical figures were members of the Skull & Bones Society of Yale
  • What sorts of legal ways there are to get high—some of these will really surprise you, and you probably already do some of them already. My four-year-old does one of them (spinning)!
  • A list of credible sources who say that UFOs are, indeed, the real deal
  • Experiments our own government has conducted on the poor, the incarcerated, and even orphan children (these will probably keep you up at night)
  • Deaths that surround former President Bill Clinton
  • A list of people who’ve died at Disneyland
  • Lists of people and the drugs they’ve done
  • A list of companies that are actually allowed to make illegal drugs (can you believe it?)
  • Several different super weird genres of pornographic movies
  • A list of animals that are gay in nature (this list should definitely be expanded; since reading it and doing research for other projects, I’ve discovered many, many more)
  • Lots of lists about weird things, like actual suicide notes

It’s definitely one of those books that will get you immediately hooked, unable to put it down until you’ve read the whole thing. Of course, it’s full of so much information, you’ll just have to read it again afterwards. It would make a fantastic gift for your favorite conspiracy theorist, trivia buff, list lover, or generally subversive person. It would also be fun to set out as a “bathroom book” when you have super conservative or easily offended guests staying over…
